THE GROUP
Unipol Gruppo Finanziario S.p.A. (UGF) is a holding and service company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange. It is the result of a complex corporate reorganisation, whereby the centralised and coordinating functions previously carried out by the parent company Unipol Assicurazioni were gradually separated from the activities of the individual companies. UGF S.p.A. has been operating since 1 September 2007.
Once the initial phase of reorganisation had been completed, as laid down in the 2006-2009 business plan, the second phase began, the aim of which is to reorganize insurance business.
In May 2010 presented to the market the 2010-2012 Industrial Plan by the Board of Directors and the new CEO, Carlo Cimbri.
As from 1 February 2009, in addition to the companies already belonging to the Group, among which UGF Banca, UGF controls 100% of UGF Assicurazioni S.p.A., a new company resulting from the merger of Unipol Assicurazioni and Aurora Assicurazioni. The new entity will continue to benefit from the agency networks and the commercial strength of the current brand names ‘Unipol’ and ‘Aurora’, each of which will keep its own identity. The sales networks will remain distinct and independent, also in order to maximise its commercial capacity and guarantee efficient customer services.
UGF manages all services and activities which do not have a direct impact on the competitive differentiation of individual companies, achieving optimum economies of scale, purpose and know-how as a result of this concentration of activities.
UGF closed the 2009 financial year with insurance income of €9.5bn, customer deposits in the banking sector of €9.5bn and a net consolidated profit of -€769m.
The consolidated half-yearly report as at 30 June 2010 shows insurance income amounting to €4,408m, customer deposits in the banking sector of €9,3bn and a net consolidated profit of €30m.
As at 31 December 2009 the Group totalled 7,111 members of the staff (6,941 as at 31/12/2008), including 417 in the holding company, 4,346 in the insurance sector and 2,348 in the banking sector.
