THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The renewed commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by Unipol Gruppo Finanziario draws its strength from long-standing and consolidated experience, with the original company Unipol Assicurazioni being one of the pioneers of social reporting in Italy. In fact, its first Social Report dates back to 1993. In this context, Unipol has for some time been active in various organisations – beginning with Impronta Etica and the Forum per la Finanza Sostenibile (Forum for Sustainable Finance) - which encourage the development of CSR at national and international levels.
2007 was a particularly important and fruitful year in this field.
Under the Company’s new Corporate Governance Code, the Committee for Social Responsibility was established within the Board of Directors, with the remit to supervise and verify the implementation of CSR strategies and policies.
In addition, a programme was launched for extensive, top-down internal involvement in drawing up the new ‘Charter of Values’ for the Group. During 2008 this led to an intensive training programme which, once it is completed, will see the active participation of all staff in UGF and its subsidiaries, as well as significant representation by Agents of the insurance companies. This work is a prerequisite for the revision and updating of the Code of Ethics, which will get underway in the next few months.
